1) 19-year-old man feels 'discriminated' after being fired due to his 'hygiene'

Paul Wilkinson said he was 'discriminated' against after he claims his manager at The Grape Tree store in Hexham 'fired' him on his first day because of his 'poor personal hygiene.'

The Grape Tree declined to comment.

2) Body of a missing walker is found by mountain rescue team

A male walker failed to turn up to his accommodation in Bellingham; the man, in his 60s, had intended to walk the Pennine Way from Housesteads to Bellingham.

3) Straw blocks road 

Straw bales came off a tractor in Hexham, blocking the road.

The incident is thought to have caused damage to a wall, lampost and railings outside Matthew Charlton.

4) Police probe attempted burglary at shop

Burglars attempted to steal a cash machine from a Haltwhistle shop, police said.

Officers attended and found offenders had forced entry into Co-op on Westgate, causing damage to the front door.

5) Child 'hit by flying object' while waiting in queue at chippy

A toddler was hit with a sharp object when he and his grandad was waiting in the queue to order their food, police have said.

Although the toddler was hit - he did not need medical attention.

6) Police officer given written warning after kissing colleague's cheek

A newly-appointed police officer was given a final written warning after kissing a colleague on the cheek and putting her arm around another officer's waist.

PC Hayley Pegg, of Northumbria Police, was accused of subjecting four colleagues to unwanted touching.

7) Motorists told to find alternative routes after tree blocks road

A member of the public notified other residents on social media about a tree blocking a road in Catton. 

She advsised that it is not 'passable'.

8) Teens lay tyre spikes in road and damage scaffolding at construction site

At the redevelopment of Dontino's, a former nightclub in the centre of Hexham, a group of offenders reportedly took nails from a scaffolding site and laid them on the road like tyre spikes, and ripped off the scaffolding's foam protectors.

A full police investigation has now been launched.

9) Italian restaurant under new management

Alina Rosso took over the former Cassia Italian restaurant, on Corbridge Front Street, in June.

It is now named Casa Rosso.

10) 'Miracle' as seven-year-old boy left only with 'superficial' injuries after 15-foot fall

Finley Strachan slipped and fell off a woodland path at Plankey Mill down onto the rocky river bed below.

He had been enjoying a day out with his father John, mum Aimie and four-year-old sister Matilda.
