BURGLARS attempted to steal a cash machine from a Haltwhistle shop, police have said.
Shortly after 2.40am today (Wednesday), police received a report of a burglary at the Co-op store on Westgate.
Officers attended and found offenders had forced entry into the premises, causing damage to the front door.
It is understood they attempted to steal a cash machine before making off from the scene in a vehicle, police said.
A Northumbria Police spokesman added: “Enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved and establish what has been taken."
