A unique opportunity to hear first-hand Second World War stories will be offered by author Liesbeth Langford in Hexham.

On March 13, the Beaumont in Hexham will be hosting Ms Langford who will share her life story - telling tales and sharing insights from her book 'Letters by Candlelight', published in 2009.

Ms Langford, a resident of Humshaugh, was born in Nazi occupied Holland during the Second World War to a Dutch father and English mother.

The book is based on letters her mother wrote, that were never sent, to her father who was involved with the Resistance.

His actions saved many Jewish children, but it meant that he was constantly having to hide.

The narratives she shares deliver a 'deeply moving' first-person account of life during the war.

Following the talk, a special three-course lunch and a glass of wine will be served.

The event costs £30, which includes the lunch, and the money raised will go to Tynedale Hospice at Home, a charity Mrs Langford has regularly supported.

Tickets for the fundraising event can be bought online by visiting the Tynedale Hospice website or by calling 01434 606444.
