AN EXTRA £9.4 million will support schools across the region.

Hexham MP Guy Opperman said he is ‘delighted’ schools across Tynedale and Ponteland will receive additional funding as part of the Government’s £2.3 billion boost to school funding.

Northumberland County Council will receive an additional £9.4 million for local first schools, middle schools, and high schools so students can enjoy the best education possible.

The funding boost builds on the investment seen in local schools over the last decade.

Since 2015, £98.1m has been invested in the four local high schools, with schools at Haydon Bridge, Queen Elizabeth High School, Ponteland and Prudhoe having been fully rebuilt or refurbished.

Slaley First School will receive a year-on-year increase of £9,600 as part of the boost in funding. Kielder Primary School will receive £5,670 and Adderlane Academy will receive £16,760.

Guy Opperman MP said: "I am delighted that schools across Tynedale and Ponteland continue to receive a boost in investment.

"Since 2015, £98.1 million has been invested in our four local high schools, with all of them having been rebuilt or refurbished. Following our success in getting fairer funding for rural schools, I am delighted that all our local schools will receive a boost in funding.

"I will continue working with teachers in schools across West Northumberland to ensure that our children get the best possible education.”
