AN MP visited a first school and praised its staff.

Hexham MP Guy Opperman visited Slaley First School to meet headteacher Angela Hayward, visit the Early Years Unit and speak to pupils.

The school’s most recent Ofsted inspection rated it as good.

The school is also expected to see a funding increase year-on-year of approximately £9,600 thanks to the Government’s boost in school funding.

Guy Opperman MP said: "I was delighted to visit Slaley First School.

"It is a fantastic school and Ms Hayward and the team are doing a brilliant job in providing a quality education for the children.

"I particularly enjoyed speaking to the children about my role as their local MP and taking some excellent and thoughtful questions.”

Angela Hayward said: "It was a huge pleasure to welcome Guy to Slaley First School.

"I was delighted to show Guy around our school and particularly into our Early Years Unit which we have recently developed into a natural, vintage-style learning environment.

"The children were so excited to be given the opportunity to ask a member of parliament questions and it was great for them to have an insight into the life of an MP.

"What a great experience all round."
