ENGLISH Heritage sites across Northumberland will be closed during the Queen's funeral on Monday, September 19.

Queen Elizabeth II's funeral has been announced as a bank holiday, leading to many businesses and sites across Northumberland announcing they will be closed on Monday and reopen on Tuesday, September 20.

The funeral will take place at 11am at Westminster Abbey.

The service will be televised, and a national two minute silence will be held.

"As a mark of respect, English Heritage is closing Belsay Hall on Monday, September 19 for Her Majesty The Queen's funeral," it said.

Housesteads Roman Fort, Chesters Roman Fort, Corbridge Roman Town and Birdoswald Roman Fort will also be closed.

Other businesses in Tynedale will be closed on the day of the funeral.

Allendale Co-operative Society, Hexham MOT Centre, Tyne Valley Garden Centre, and Corbridge Cookshop have all stated they will be closed, as well as Active Northumberland, which will close their leisure centres on Monday.

Matfen Hall Country Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate and Kielder Observatory will also be closed.
