AS Queen Elizabeth II's funeral has been announced as a bank holiday, several Tynedale businesses have stated they will close.

The funeral will be held on Monday, September 19.

Allendale Co-operative Society, Hexham MOT Centre, Tyne Valley Garden Centre, and Corbridge Cookshop have all stated they will be closed.

Active Northumberland, which manages leisure facilities and services throughout Northumberland, will close their leisure centres on Monday.

For customers who paid for activities on this date, the teams will put money onto customers cashless accounts, which can be used to book any activity via the website or by calling Active Northumberland directly.

Swimming lessons will not be going ahead on Monday, so October direct debit payments will be adjusted accordingly.

Matfen Hall Country Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate will close to residents and guests.

"This closure will allow our team to join the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth in paying their respects on the day of the Queen's funeral.

We will close after lunch service on Sunday, September 18 and will reopen on the morning of Tuesday, 20," they said.

Kielder Observatory said: "Following confirmation of the date of the state funeral of HRH Queen Elizabeth II, the event on September 19 will be cancelled. All guests will be contacted directly for refunds or transfers. RIP Your Majesty - we are deeply grateful for your long years of service and duty."

Belsay Shop and Post Office will only be open from 7.30am until 10am for newspapers, for staff to pay their respects to the Queen.

Wentworth Leisure Centre said: "To mark the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II our leisure centres will be closed on Monday, September 19 and re-open on Tuesday, September 20."

Hexham pub The Grapes Hotel will be open at 10am and broadcast the Queen's funeral service when it begins at 11am.

They said: "Raceday will be postponed for a respectful day and back next week.

"The garden will be a funeral free zone with chilled music on until mid afternoon, if you want to just have a little contemplate and chill out we've got you covered."

The Dyvels Inn in Corbridge will also offer their space for people to celebrate the Queen.

"Here at The Dyvels we would like to invite everyone to celebrate the life of the Queen on Monday, September 19.

"We will be airing the full funeral and would like to get everyone together.

"Let's share stories about the Queen. How much she was a role model to all women out there," the pub said.

The pub will serve unlimited tea and coffee, traditional scones, afternoon teas, cakes and more.
