A NEW, community event is looking for local people to share their creativity and skills.

Wylam’s first Make, Share, Create event aims to bring together friends and neighbours in the village.

Whether it be cooking or crochet, DIY or dance, organisers, Wylam Artists Makers and Creators Community Organisation, stress that everybody has a hobby or interest suitable.

The not-for-profit event will have workshops, drop-in zones and activity areas, hosting the likes of music, art and wellbeing.

“The idea is that everybody has some sort of creative skill or passion that they quite often don’t even think of and don’t share with people around them”, said Jos Joures, who also helps with the village’s Makers’ Market, run by Maisie Henderson.

“We’re talking about people who have beautiful gardens, restore old furniture or are passionate about something. You don’t have to have artist or creative on your T-shirt.”

It is hoped the success of the Makers’ Market can be replicated with this new event.

Jos added: “One of the things that really struck us about the Makers’ Market, that we hadn’t completely anticipated, was that it had a really good community impact. That fascinated us how you could build on that.

“When I was a kid in Wylam, it was much more community orientated. Modern life is much more atomised.

“Community carries with it a lot of psychological wellbeing for people.”

It is hoped that the event, supported by Wylam Parish Council, could become a yearly tradition.

The free event will take place on September 24 at Wylam Institute and garden from 12pm.
