YOUNG musicians can be in with a chance of playing to crowds at this year's Tynedale Beer and Cider Festival.

The popular, fundraising event will take place on June 17-19 at Tynedale Park, Corbridge.

The Big Gig initiative will see young bands, up to age 18, battle it out in a competition round to play a whole set at the final day of the festival.

Acts invited to play will also be offered mentoring from Katy Trigger, who is touring bassist with Maximo Park.

"The Big Gig is a great chance for young musicians in the region to perform on the big stage in front of the Tynedale crowd", said Chris Lloyd, a committee member who manages the music programme of the festival.

The competition is being run in association with Core Music Hexham and audio and visual partners to the festival Fingers & Fringe.

"If you know of a young band at a school or a youth group who you think have got what it takes to perform to the crowd at the Tynedale Beer Festival on the big gig, get in touch soon", added Steve Keys for the festival.

Musicians interested in applying should send a clip to fingersandfringe.wetransfter.com

The deadline for applications is April 28.
