NEWCASTLE’S Theatre Royal has been filled with cheers and laughter over Christmas for its popular annual pantomime.

But now we’re well in to the New Year, its latest production promises to transport audiences from the chilly North-East to a Greek island paradise.

Mamma Mia!, Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus’ smash hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, promises the audience a tale of love, friendship and identity.

The feel-good musical tells the funny tale of a mother, daughter and her three possible dads.

Sophie’s quest to discover the father she’s never known brings her mother face to face with three men from her distant romantic past on the eve of her wedding.

The storytelling of ABBA’s timeless songs makes this the ultimate feel-good show, which has already been seen by 65 million people worldwide and is now the seventh longest-running show in West End history.

It runs at the Theatre Royal from January 22 until Saturday, February 8 at 7.30pm, with matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays at 2.30pm.

Bookings for Mamma Mia! can be made via the Theatre Royal Box Office or online at: https://www.theatreroyal.co.uk/whats-on/mamma-mia-2020
