HEXHAM’S underground music venue, The Vault, has secured a big folk name to perform this weekend.

Arch Garrison will take to the stage as the headline act in a double-billing on Friday. Arch Garrison are fronted by guitarist and singer Craig Fortnam, best-known as the leader, conductor and principal composer of contemporary music ensemble the North Sea Radio Orchestra.

He will be joined by NSRO’s James Larcombe on keyboards, with the duo’s intricate guitar playing underpinning songs about England’s ancient landscapes.

Also performing on Friday is surreal Cornish folk singer Emily Jones, known for the unusual subjects of her music.

Expect to hear about a marsh spirit falling out of love with the enchanter who conjured her, an ice cream seller with terrible personal hygiene, as well as an inventor who fashions deadly, glittering robot birds.

The gig starts at 8pm.
