THE sky over Hexham will be alight as thousands gather for the town’s bonfire night celebrations.

Organised by Hexham Round Table, the town’s renowned bonfire and fireworks display will take place the Sele on Saturday, November 2, in advance of bonfire night on Tuesday.

The event always attracts huge crowds of more than 2,000 people, who come to enjoy the atmosphere as the large bonfire is set alight and fireworks take to the sky.

This year the bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm.

And all eyes will be on the skies from 7pm when the fireworks light up the night sky.

In addition to the display, there will be activities for all of the family to get involved in.

The Guy Fawkes competition is always a big hit and Hexham Round Table will judge the competition on the Sele, with this year’s theme being the Wizard of Oz.

With winter setting in, the crowds may well have to don their gloves and hats to keep warm, and the night will also see local groups providing hot food and drinks to visitors.

There is no admission charge, but collections are made on the gate, with funds raised going towards ensuring the event can be maintained. The Round Table also makes donations to community groups and good causes throughout the year.

Those attending are asked not to bring sparklers. Due to the large numbers of people travelling to Hexham to enjoy the celebrations, it is expected that parking will be limited.

Hexham Round Table is advising people to arrive early and is encouraging the use of public transport.
