Royal Northern Sinfonia are out and about in the region again this October, performing classical music greats in Hexham Abbey on Sunday, October 20 at 3pm.

Following sold-out Christmas by Candlelight concerts and summer tours of American and Nordic music, the orchestra are once again touring the region’s beautiful churches with this Mahler One ‘Titan’ tour developing relationships and audiences across the North.

The title work of the concert, Mahler’s powerful ‘Titan’ symphony has been arranged for smaller ensemble by composer Iain Farrington. Feel the full force and energy of this mighty symphony from just 15 players absolutely giving it their all.

Led by violinist Tristan Gurney, the orchestra will perform Strauss’ Capriccio Sextet, given to a Nazi officer in 1942 in return for safe passage out of Germany for his Jewish daughter-in-law, as well as Wagner’s intensely romantic, Classic FM favourite, Siegfried Idyll.

This October tour takes Royal Northern Sinfonia to Cullercoats, Darlington, and Hexham before a larger programme of Christmas by Candlelight concerts in early December.

Tickets for the concert are £15, or £5 for under-18s and are available from Sage Gateshead’s box office in person or on (0191) 443 4661 or at
