A SHOW that celebrates the all-year-round nature of gardening will head to a new venue this weekend.

The Alpine Garden Society and the Scottish Rock Garden Club have come together to hold a national spring show in Hexham for several years.

This year’s event, which was held at the mart for the first time, proved a huge success, prompting organisers to hold the North-East’s autumn show there for the first time.

Until now, it had been held in Ponteland.

Hexham’s plant shows are renowned to specialists growers throughout the country, and attract exhibitors from all over the UK.

No less than 10 alpine plant nurseries will be in attendance and, while the variety of autumn-flowering alpines is smaller than what’s available in spring, organisers were confident that the event will be a success at the new venue.

The show opens to the public at Hexham Mart from 11am on Saturday.
