BEAUFRONT will host its 95th district fruit and vegetable show this weekend.

Every year, the Beaufront Show takes over Hexham’s Beaufront First School, bringing an array of colour and creativity from people of all ages.

Organised by the Beaufront and District Fruit and Vegetable Association, the show has long been a staple in the community calendar.

And once again it will showcase the best in home produced fruit, vegetables, baking and handicrafts.

The show, taking place on Saturday, September 14, opens to the public at 2.30pm after exhibits have been placed and judged from 8.30am.

Show secretary John Middleton said one of the shows strengths was the support it received from children and their families. The day’s schedule will also include a variety of children’s sports.

From 2.30pm, there will be activities in the school yard, which will include a coconut shy and a face painter and competitions to win a bottle of gin and a teddy bear.

At 3.15pm, children can take part in a variety of sports on the school field with small rewards available.

Trophies will be presented at 3.45pm and an auction will be held at 4.30pm with exhibitors encouraged to leave as many entries as possible for the auction which, this year, will be run by an auctioneer from Hexham Mart.

Mr Middleton, said: “This is the first time we will bring an auctioneer from the Mart to take part and hope it will add to the fun on the day.

“All money raised from auctions at the show is donated to local charities, and this year’s chosen charity is the Calvert Trust based in Kielder.”
