ALLENDALE is gearing up for one of the most colourful events of the summer.

The 166th Allendale Horticultural and Industrial Show will be held in the village’s primary school on August 24.

Local growers will show off their finest produce, from border carnations to African marigolds, and red cabbage to rhubarb.

The industrial section always whets the appetite of visitors from near and far with its selection of homemade produce, including girdle scones, sausage rolls, jams and chutneys.

Meanwhile, this year’s children’s section will be judged by Neil and Lisa Cole from Allendale’s Sci Fi museum. The show has secured the services of the BBC’s Marian Foster to present trophies to the winners. Marian produces and presents Garden Mania on BBC Radio.

The show opens to the public from 1pm, while exhibitors can set up from 7am.
