TWO opposing armies of Roman soldiers will do battle at an historic site.

At Chesters Roman Fort this weekend, members of the public are invited to watch the Roman Empire’s finest soldiers compete in an intense show of strength and skill.

In a re-enactment show sure to thrill visitors, two teams will throw spears, take aim on the archery field and clash with swords and shields in the bid to emerge victorious.

Visitors to the English Heritage site will be asked to pick a side to support.

A spokeswoman for English Heritage said: “Pick a side and cheer them on, but remember, only one will emerge victorious.

She continued: “Explore the living history camp and meet the Romans to find out more about life in the empire.

“Share the fun with your little legionaries – they’ll get the chance to try on a soldier’s armour and join in with battle drills.”

The Clash of Romans event will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.
