TO mark the 80th birthday of a famed British playwright, local actors will tread the boards.

Queen’s Hall Theatre Club will perform Alan Ayckbourn’s comedy Tons of Money at Hexham’s Queen’s Hall from Thursday to Saturday in celebration of the prolific writer reaching his eighth decade.

The play is about two ‘toffs’ who find themselves struggling financially, until they receive a large amount of money from a family member.

From that moment on, the pair get themselves into comedy mishaps as they try to prevent creditors getting hold of their new found health.

Set in the 1920s, the adaptation of a play originally by Will Evans and Arthur Valentine has been a big hit with theatre fans across the world.

The production by Queen’s Hall Theatre Club, which is currently seeking new members, will take place at 7.30pm each night. Tickets are available from the Queen’s Hall box office.
