A CELEBRATED violinist is due to make a welcome return to the North-East next week.

In an event organised by Hexham and District Music Society, Japanese violinist Mayumi Fujikawa and respected cellist and conductor Richard Markson will be joined by friends at Hexham’s Queen’s Hall on Wednesday evening for a performance of Chausson’s Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Quartet.

Mayumi and Richard have had long, successful international careers as soloists, chamber musicians and recording artists, working with artists such as Lorin Maazel and Jorge Federico Osorio.

The duo are also distinguished teachers dedicated to the nurturing of new talent and will be joined on stage by an ensemble of young musicians including their pianist/composer son, Oliver Markson.

Fujikawa, Markson and Friends will also play music from Beethoven and Mozart.
