A RENOWNED Irish cellist will be performing in the Allen Valleys tonight.

Cellist and composer Ilse De Ziah will be in performing at Allendale Village Hall tonight from 7.30pm, returning to the UK after a hugely successful tour last year.

De Ziah uses traditional Irish melodies as a source for her contemporary arrangements, well suited to the cello.

Her second album will be released later this year, while she recently featured as a soloist in the largest Gamelan Festival in the world in Solo, Java.

De Ziah also performs and records with many rock, pop, and jazz musicians.

Cumbrian cellist Kenneth Wilson, who organised the tour, said: “This is the cello as you’ve never heard it before.

“Ilse de Ziah takes traditional Irish melodies and gives them a deep and fabulous transformation.”
