A CELEBRATION of the life and music of the late Sir Jimmy Shand will take place at the Queen’s Hall in Hexham.

The prolific composer and legend of Scottish music, whose tunes continue to feature in the repertoire of most traditional accordionists and dance bands, will be celebrated in a performance by Brandon McPhee Band.

Senior Scottish accordion champion Brandon is winner of the the highly coveted “Jimmy Shand Shield”, and is recognised across Britain and Ireland through his music and many appearances on stage, radio and television.

In the Jimmy Shand Story, he looks back at the life and music of his idol, playing many of his favourite tunes, complemented by visual images.

There will also be stories narrated live by legendary Scottish Folksinger and broadcaster Jimmie Macgregor MBE – who has appeared on BBC Television, presented on the White Heather Club, and toured with Sir Jimmy Shand.

Brandon will also seize the opportunity to demonstrate the continuing relevance and versatility of the famous Hohner Shand Marino button accordion with a song or two.

The event is tomorrow at 7.30pm.
