A CELEBRATED mezzo-soprano opera singer is bringing her five star-rated performance to a Tynedale audience.
On the back of receiving five out of five in a review from The Independent newspaper, Clare McCaldin will star in Mary’s Hand at Hexham’s Queen’s Hall on Friday evening.
The production is a musical drama about the life and reign of Queen Mary I, which interacts with the audience by allowing the crowd to dictate the passage of the play.
The performance centres around Queen Mary’s love of games of chance, such as cards and dice, and the performance shares a game of cards with the audience who get to choose the next card to be turned.
Their choices prompt her to reflect upon the influences and events of her life, including her father Henry VIII, her mother Katherine of Aragon, her Catholic faith, her half-sister Elizabeth I and her desperate desire for a child.
Star of the show is Clare McCaldin who has already won a big following in the Tyne Valley after appearing at the Hexham Abbey Festival.
She has also received rave reviews, including the high praise from The Independent, and is sure to shine once again in Hexham.
The performance will start at 7.30pm.
