A NEW exhibition has launched at Newcastle’s Side Gallery focusing on struggling communities across Britain.

Jim Mortram’s exhibition, Small Town Inertia, opened last Saturday at the gallery just off Newcastle’s Quayside.

Jim has been photographing the lives of people in his community who, through physical and mental problems and a failing social security system, face isolation and loneliness in their daily lives.

His work covers difficult subjects such as disability, addiction and self-harm, but with hope and dignity, focusing upon the strength and resilience of the people he photographs.

With free entry to the gallery, the exhibition will run until March 24.

It is open between Tuesdays to Sundays between 11am to 5pm.
