A RENOWNED pianist who has played in music halls across the world is now adding Hexham to his long list of venues.

Riyad Nicolas, originally from Syria, will perform at the town’s Queen’s Hall on Friday at 7.30pm in an event organised by the Hexham and District Music Society.

Regarded as one of the most exciting musicians to emerge from the Middle East, he has played at London’s Royal Albert Hall and St James’s Piccadilly as well as America’s Kennedy Center, in Washington, and the Chicago Cultural Center.

In addition, he has performed in Switzerland, France, Spain, Germany, the Gulf, Lebanon and his home nation of Syria.

Riyad moved to England from Syria in 2005 and has won several prestigious awards since, including the Royal College of Music’s prestigious Chappell Medal Competition in 2015.
