THOUSANDS of people will again descend on Hexham for the annual bonfire night celebrations.

In one of the town’s biggest social events, the bonfire and fireworks display organised by Hexham Round Table will again be held in the grounds of the Sele, with an estimated 12,000 people expected to attend.

Donations made at the event allow the round table to provide money to local charities and community organisations throughout the year.

In 2017, a total of £16,000 was raised.

The bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm and will be followed by the fireworks at 7pm.

The Round Table receives support from a number of organisations in the town, with many donating items for the bonfire, including wood pallets for burning.

There will be a parade of colourful guys made by local children, which are all placed on the fire.

Hot food and drink will be served on the Sele, and a variety of glow-in-the-dark items will be on sale to add to the colourful atmosphere during the evening.

A variety of musical entertainment has been organised too.
