A UNIVERSITY lecturer is bringing his knowledge of all things fungi to the people of the Allen Valleys next week.

Dr Gordon Beakes, lecturer of mycology at Newcastle University and all-round ‘fun guy’ will be giving a talk to the Allen Valleys Wildlife Group on Tuesday, October 9.

Local expert Gordon, who lives in Bardon Mill, has been recording the fungi of Northumberland for the past 40 years, and is well known across Tynedale after holding workshops in the past.

This time, his talk is dramatically entitled Death (cap) Valley.

The combination of hot summer weather and autumn rains has meant that 2018 is proving to be a particularly good year for spotting fungi of all types.

The talk begins at 7pm at the High Forest Community Centre in Sinderhope.

Admission is free, but a raffle will also be held on the night.
