HORSLEY’S Hearth Art Centre is hosting an unusual event this Saturday.

Local jewellery maker Michelle Martin, who runs Hexham and Haltwhistle-based North Stone Jewellery, will be leading two side by side workshops that teach budding artists how to make a garden ornament - out of old boots.

Using Powertex, an environmentally-friendly, water-based and non-toxic fabric hardener, attendees will create either a boot filled with a cascade of flowers or a vintage rose cottage boot.

The easy level workshop will spend some time making the clay flowers, using fabric to cover the structure and adding the decorative flower details.

The boot will be fully weatherproof and can be used as an outdoor ornament.

There is a charge for the workshop, which takes place from 10.30am until 2.30pm, which includes materials.
