A BRAND new harvest food and flower show is coming to Humshaugh Village Hall this Saturday.

It’s the first harvest show to be held in the village, and organiser Sarah Dodd is hoping to replicate the success of the region’s other shows across the summer.

Sarah explained: “I grew up in Humshaugh and always thought a produce show would be fantastic.

“After many years living away from the North-East, I moved back in November with my husband and two children.

“As my husband was off to Iraq for seven months on January 1 this year, I decided to get the show up and running as something to keep me busy while he was away.”

Activities for all ages include adult and child competitions, from vegetables, cakes and jams to the tallest flowers and best- decorated egg.

Prizes include dinner forfour at Walwick Hall Hotel and a visit to Kirkley Hall Zoo.

Various local food producers will be on hand to serve up in a ‘mini market’ outside the hall, which Sarah hopes will grow in the coming years to be a big hub for artisan food producers.

Entertainment will be provided by Northumbrian piper Gwennie Fraser, Hexham Morris dancers and an impressive display of vintage tractors.

“It is set to be a great day and hopefully it will become an annual event bringing the local community together,” Sarah added.

The harvest food and flower show takes place from 12pm to 5pm on Saturday, September 15 at Humshaugh Village Hall.
