HUNDREDS of plastic ducks are expected to float through Ponteland as the annual duck race takes place on Sunday September 2.

The fun-filled family day also includes rides, slides and entertainment for all ages.

Coun. Alan Hall said: “We have 500 ducks all individually numbered and members of the public are able to buy a duck and watch them race down the River Pont.

“There’s also special boat races where we are encouraging children to build their own catamaran-style boats with past designs including the Titanic.”

Ponteland businesses have helped sponsor the event and have also created their own boats.

The event is always held in Ponteland Park on the first Sunday in September and last year’s popular model boat race attracted a record 33 entries.

The event raised a total of £3,200 shared between several charities.

This year, races start at 1.30pm and families are encouraged to bring along picnics.
