AS their opponents wilted in the final quarter of the game, Corbridge Centurions showed a ruthless streak to run away with their cup game with Novocastrians II.

A dominant late spell saw them finish as 50-15 victors, the flurry of four tries taking the game well beyond their guests.

The Tynedale pack dominated throughout, and took the lead when Colin Murphy set off on a jinking run for Ben Blackburn to drive over from the resulting maul.

Novos responded with a penalty, but Tynedale went further ahead as another impressive scrum led to number eight Micky Hall touching down. Harry Wood added the points from the kicking tee.

The score was at 17-3 at the break after Jake Sloan made an excellent 50-metre break down the right wing only to be held up just short. The ball was quickly recycled though, and the ball was moved across to the supporting Blackburn for his second try of the afternoon.

After the break, Dicky Hall made good ground to find hooker Adam Binks, but he had a battle keep the move going which he finished off after Sloan bravely dived in among flying boots to retrieve possession.

Sloppy handling close to their own line allowed Novos to score a close range try, but Tynedale roared back and finished the game off in an impressive final quarter showing.

After turning over the ball near half way, new full back Jake Richards stepped into the line and showed great speed and strength to finish under the posts.

Murphy and Binks then added second tries, before the speedy Novos winger stepped in as Tyne looked to score again as he scorched the length of the pitch to touch down wide.

A fine, individual gallop from Micky Hall saw him bring an end to the scoring with his second of the day.

There were excellent performances from props Tristan Grant and Ed Craney, while lock Nathan Washington and flankers Charlie Harvey and Andy McGrath saw the forwards dominate.

Half backs Andy Harvey and Wood were able to dictate proceedings, while Robbie Nixon was unlucky not to score and replacement scrum half Matty Williams showed flashes of his old self.
