CONTINUING their path to Olympic stardom, members of Queen Elizabeth High School Rowing Club have struck gold.

Hot prospects Amy Bowman and Milly Dickinson followed up a record breaking victory in the junior pairs at the British Junior Championships with a fantastic triumph in their first outing in an England vest.

Chosen to row for England in the pair in the Home Countries fixture against Ireland Wales and Scotland in Glasgow, they put in a barnstorming performance to win gold by an astonishing 13.3 seconds.

The victory showed the huge potential of the duo, the event used as a first step on the road to World and Olympic championships in years gone by.

They headed into the fixture full of confidence after setting a new event record at the British champs, coach Geoff Higgins asking them to take initiative early on as they returned to Scotland for the second weekend running.

And the girls followed orders expertly, leaving the Irish champions Bann RC in their wake with a devastating push at 1500m to move them 8.6 seconds.

The gap only widened in the remaining 500m, the England team home by more than 13 seconds with Scotland and Wales even further behind.

Their time was so outstanding that it would have seen them defeat England‘s senior women’s pair, and given senior winners Wales a good race too.

Adding to her gold medal haul, Milly braved the torrential conditions to help the England junior eight to victory and the team to the overall Junior Women‘s Trophy.
