HEXHAM will face Northumberland Juniors in the next round of the Northumbria Squash League Cup after defeating Division Three side Benwell Hill 5-0.
It wasn‘t as plain sailing for the Division One side as the result suggests, the five members all involved in close-fought games. But their class shone through as they made it a clean sweep.
Andrew Wilkinson got the ball rolling with a 3-1 win (15-13, 15-10, 10-15, 15-13), with Tom Ewen (15-11, 15-10, 15-10) and Adrian Alderton (15-6, 15-10, 15-12) making sure of the success with 3-0 wins.
Paul Satow (15-8, 15-12, 9-15, 15-13) maintained the winning run by beating his opponent 3-1, with Damon Watts making it five wins from five by coming from behind twice to win 3-2 (11-15, 15-4, 10-15, 15-6, 15-0).
Hexham didn’t fare as well in their league game at Sunderland as they picked up just one point in their 20-1 defeat.
The point was gained as Watts rescued a game while going down 3-1 (7-11, 16-14, 8-11, 9-11), but Wilkinson (4-11, 4-11, 5-11), Ewen (4-11, 2-11, 7-11), Alderton (3-11, 4-11, 2-11) and Satow (5-11, 11-13, 8-11) endured tricky opponents and all lost 3-0.
