‘The Flying Scotsman’ Cliffy McKay had trumpets playing as he came dressed in his kilt for the captain’s drive-in in 2016, so the pressure was on Murphy to dress to impress. And his colourful garb raised many a smile at last weekend’s event, as he and ladies’ captain Marjorie Tingate got the new season off to a swinging start.
The season started wiht the opening Jack Welch Trophy, which was won by Jeff Shield with 42 points. Colin Gilhepsy was runner-up on 38, with Brendan Murphy making up the top three on 36.
Next Friday, European Tour professional Chris Paisley will give a talk-in at Hexham Golf Club to raise funds for the club’s junior section. The event starts at 7.30pm
