LEAGUE leaders Blyth made light work of Corbridge on their way to maximum points.

They restricted their hosts to a single single point in the eight wicket reversal, after Corbridge were all out for 79 runs.

Their innings couldn't have got off to a worse start after captain Andy Dover elected to bat first, Simon Walker caught by Gary Cotterill off Andy Kemp from the first ball of the ball.

Doug McKendrick and Chris Fowler steadied the ship and put on 28 for the second wicket, until McKendrick was caught by Darren Carr to give Will Asher his first wicket of the afternoon.

A partnership of 20 between Fowler and Russell Perry saw Corbridge edge towards 50, but Asher soon accounted for both with Fowler caught by Roberts and Perry clean bowled.

The wickets continued to tumble with Graeme Tiffin and Milo Robinson both trapped lbw by Mark Lawrence to take the score to 56-6.

Marcus Robinson was the next to fall when he became Asher's third victim, with the bowler keeping up the pressure by having Jeremy Scott caught by Craig Smith.

A partnership of 10 between Dean Robinson and John Maude took the score to 79, but that was as good as it got as Robinson was bowled by Lawrence and Maude, after facing 60 balls, sent one back to Cameron Walker to put an end to Corbridge's innings in the 30th over.

The Blyth scoring was slow as openers Andy Clark and Asher put on 14 for the first wicket, their partnership ending when McKendrick had Clark leg before.

It was instantly followed up by the wicket of Darren Carr, going behind to Walker for a quick second wicket for McKendrick.

But Asher and Andrew Ebdale combined well for the third wicket to end the game at the start of the 16th over, Ebdale in hard hitting mood as his final score came off 20 balls as he hit six fours.

Corbridge II's hopes of escaping the bottom two in Division Two were dealt a blow when they lost to Tynemouth II with just four balls to spare.

Anthony Brown and Shuja Khan scored 29 and 23 respectively to help Corbridge to 139, but Tynemouth reached their target with two wickets in hand at the death despite a tight spell at the end by John Davison.
