TYNEDALE bounced back from defeat to bolster their chances of a top half finish.

Picking up maximum points in the 65 run victory over Percy Main keeps alive their hopes of keeping hold of fifth position, their innings total of 237 a good score against some good seam bowling.

The runs didn't come quickly as Tom Cant and Sam Mannion guided the score along to 87 at the first drinks break, youngster Sam Peter bowled by Nick Phillips at 30 as he opened alongside Cant.

The only sign of any aggressive batting was Mannion's decision to hit spinner, and former Tyne captain Mark Armstrong, out of the the Main attack, with Cant doing the same later on to hit a six over long-on. Armstrong vanished after three overs having conceded 25 runs.

Former Allendale man Amit Sunda ended the 59 run partnership between Cant and Mannion, the first of four wickets, when he had Cant caught at point.

This only brought James Rainford to the crease, and he proved the match winner as he hit 94 runs in 85 balls to inject some pace into the innings.

The final 25 overs of the innings produced 150 runs, with Rainford unfortunate to fall short of his first 100 of the season.

Moments after surviving a run out appeal at the non-striker's end, he was dropped in the 36th over and the mistake proved a costly one for Main.

Mannion and Rainford put on 85 until the former, hitting his fourth 50 of the year, was bowled by Sunda with the score on 174.

The main thrust of Tynedale's innings fell on to Rainford as he was fed the strike by successive partners, making easy work of left arm spinner Will Taylor and controlling Sunda as he moved the score on. He hit a total of nine boundaries, four of which went for six.

Jamie Cricthon was caught by Philip Cramman in the straight deep to give Sunda another wicket, with Euan Stephenson becoming the fifth wicket when he was run out.

Rainford wasn't able to make it to triple figures when he mishit a catch to Taylor six runs shy, with Paul Newton run out and Josh Renton unbeaten as the innings came to an end.

Main were behind the rate when the first weicket fell at 67, James Stainstreet caught and bowled by Cant from the fifth ball of the 22nd over.

With the very next ball, Cant bowled Cant when the ball trickled off the back of the bat to knock the bails off.

David Anderson reached his 50 in the 28th over as he and Anthony Hornby put on 41 runs for the third wicket, before James Percival tempted the latter into a cut shot which was caught by Mannion who dived to his left on the run.

The big wicket of Anderson, a spectacular direct hit from 30 yards from Stephenson, followed with the score unmoved, denying the opener the opportunity to turn the game in Main's favour.

Percy's energy was lost at this point as Cramman was caught by Cant diving to his right, with Taylor stumped by Crichton to give Cant his fourth wicket.

Renton was finally rewarded when Andrew Green was caught out by David Newton.

Brother Paul then mopped up the tail as he had Sunda caught by Cant, which he followed up by bowling both Armstrong and Nicholls to complete the win.

Percy Main II squeezed past Tynedale II in the penultimate over to win by three wickets.

Batting first, Tynedale posted 189-7 with Richard Darling again top scoring as he hit 64, while Paul Scandle added 36 and Ben Griffiths 27.

In reply, Main scrambled 190-7 despite the excellent efforts of Northumberland junior Ed Foreman, who picked up 4-45 with his spin bowling.
