TYNEDALE were just six runs off Newcastle City as they were denied the Northumberland County Plate.

They fell jsut short after 20 overs in the final of the competition, having booked their place after a dramatic, last ball victory over Cowgate in the semi-finals.

Tynedale won the toss in the final and fielded first, David Newton's figures of 3-28 helping to reduce City to 36-3.

However, an 81 run partnership between Kahn (57) and Padmalaya (30) saw City move to 142-6, before Sam Peter stunted the run rate with 2-14.

James Rainford guided the Tynedale innings with a knock of 59, with Tom Cant chipping in with 23 runs. Once Rainford was bowled by Rehman, though, the innings lost momentum and Tyne pulled up short at 136-7.

Tynedale defeated Cowgate in the final four in the midweek semi-final, the match going down to the last ball of the game with more than 300 runs scored in 30 overs.

Cant timed his scoring to perfection with clean, crisp hitting as his 99 not out saw Tyne reach the target of 170.

Jamie Crichton (34) and Rainford (24) assisted along the way, as did two costly mis-fields in the final over. It was over to Josh Renton to win the match as he drove the last ball of the game straight for four, with the scores level at that point.

Cowgate posted 169-4 in their innings, Peter again taking two wickets.
