THE end of the season can not come quick enough for Corbridge after they were well beaten again at the weekend.

They posted just 60 runs in reply at Berwick as they chased 158, losing for the sixth time in a row.

They bring their season to an end with a trip to Gateshead Ethnic Minorities on Saturday, however, knowing they have just done enough to secure their status in the division, which will become Northumberland and Tyneside Division Three in 2018.

Captain Andy Dover put Berwick into bat first after winning the toss, and it looked likely to pay off as Finn Garrett-Jowsey had Nalinda Premchandra caught by David Cook with the score on two.

But fellow opener Scott Middlemist was ticking the score along nicely until Mason Emery became Garrett-Jowsey's second victim.

From 32-2, Berwick were fired to 112 as Middlemist was joined at the crase by Elliott Keenan to form a match-winning partnership.

Middlemist finally departed when he returned a catch to bowler Dover, but Berwick were looking good value at 112-3.

James Patterson was caught behind by Marcus Sewell off Zubair Ahmed, moments before half century maker Keenan was lbw to the bowler.

Martin Hush helped move Berwick to an innings total of 158, but he was bereft of any partners as Jordan Woodcock, Glen Bird and Mark Woodcock all went to the bowling of Dover.

Corbridge would have been hopeful of passing the score, but they struggled for runs throughout an innings which didn't reach the conclusion of its 25th over.

Opener David Cook was an early leg before victim to Steven Emery, with Chris Folwer caught by Mason Emery off a Premchandra delivery.

The wickets fell regularly as Steven Emery accounted for Sewell and Russell Perry, and Premchandra saw off Graeme Tiffin and top scorer David Smurthwaite.

Ahmed was the only other Corbridge batsman to reach double figures before falling to the bowling of Middlemist, who also claimed the wickets of Dean Robinson and Corey Dover.
