A GREAT year on the pitch for Tynedale was capped with their captain receiving individual honours.

Tom Cant, who skippered the first team to fifth spot in the top tier of the Northumberland Tyneside Senior League despite losing six players in the summer, left the league awards evening with the two most coveted trophies.

Just as he did in 2012, he was voted player of the year by opposing clubs and also won the John Armin Umpire's Awards.

With 840 runs in the league, averaging at 52.5 in each of his 19 innings, a total of nine from the other 11 clubs in Division A1 voted for Cant as the year's star player.

He is just one of five Tynedale players to win the player of the year accolade, with Stephen Lishman (2000), Richard Darling (2004), Scott Kay (2005) and John Meadows (2014) gaining the honour.

Cant said: "I'm chuffed with the individual awards but, as captain, the team comes forward, and we had a fantastic season. Losing six players and finishing as high as we did is the biggest achievement."

With the help of Cant, Tynedale picked up the Colin Albone Trophy for the best aggregate of team runs in a season, scoring a combined total of 3,721 runs to earn the trophy for the third time in seven seasons.

In addition, Matthew Percival was on hand to lift the U18 League trophy after an unbeaten season.
