Tynedale pull off shock last-day win to avoid relegation

After being put in to bat, No 5 Robbie Dawson (77) top-scored for Gateshead Fell who were dismissed for 193, with most of the damage done by Sam Peter (4-39 off 10.1 overs) and Seth Robbie (4-31 off 7 overs).

In reply, Tynedale opener Leo Johnson took his season's tally of league runs to 935 (average 49.2) with a great knock of 95 before Dan Parker (38 not out) and Will Marrow (15 not out) saw them across the line in the 47th over with five wickets in hand.

In Division One of the Northumberland and Tyneside League, Alnmouth & Lesbury were convincing winners at home to Stocksfield in the final day decider for the third promotion spot.

The hosts took full advantage after losing the toss and being put in to bat with an opening stand of 106 between in-form pair Edward Brunton (66) and Chalana De Silva (48) before No.4 Tom Vickers (66 not out) kept the runs flowing, and they closed on 265-6 from the allotted 50 overs. De Silva (5-19 off 5 overs) then starred with the ball as Stocksfield were dismissed for 141.

In Division Three, Hexham Leazes and Allendale ended the season on a high with victories over Seaton Burn and Kirkley respectively.

Batting first after winning the toss at home to Seaton Burn, Lucas Holmes (29) and Richard Root (29) were the main contributors for Hexham Leazes who collapsed from 127-6 to 135 all out, with Yasin Hafeez recording figures of 4-15 off 11 overs.

In reply, opener Aryan Kakwani (45) and James Blacklock (34) helped to put the visitors in a strong position on 111-6 before they slumped to 123 all out, with the pick of the bowlers being Dan Toward (4-36 off 12 overs) and Ben Teasdale (3-52 off 11 overs).

Allendale closed on 179-9 from the allotted 50 overs at Kirkley after recovering well from 75-5 thanks largely to an unbeaten 76 from No.7 Liam Pringle, before dismissing the hosts for 114 in 32.1 overs to secure a first away win since June 6. Their bowling stars were Kullim Caldwell (5-14 off 7.1 overs) and Gavin Boyd (3-23 off 6 overs).

In Division Five South, champions Annfield Plain recorded a 15th win of the season at home to Matfen. Ethan Edirisingha (103 from 71 balls including 16 boundaries and 2 sixes) led the way in the hosts' impressive total of 270-7 from the allotted 40 overs, before six of the ten bowlers claimed wickets as Matfen were dismissed for 148.

Second-placed Newton had already clinched promotion before recording a sixth win in a row at home to Blaydon.

After being put in to bat, the visitors were all out for 68 with all four bowlers among the wickets headed by Andrew Jones (5-21 off 6 overs), before Newton reached their modest target in the 24th over with six wickets in hand.

Third-placed Stamfordham also clinched promotion with victory by nine wickets at home to Newcastle Super Kings. George Devine (4-26 off 9 overs) enjoyed most success of the six bowlers used as the visitors were eventually dismissed in the 35th over for 82. 

In Division Six West, champions elect Newbrough didn't have a match scheduled, but the battle for the other promotion spot will go down to a final day decider on September 19 between Clara Vale and Belsay who are separated by only two points.

Belsay won by one wicket off the third ball of the final over at home to Wylam who had posted a challenging total of 195-7, while Clara Vale opener Johnny Lee (100 from 105 balls) starred in his side's innings which closed on 212-5 before Stamfordham were restricted to 188-8 despite the best efforts of opener Rajkumar Chintakayala (93).

There was also a century at Riding Mill from Andy Watson (100 not out from 97 balls) who shared an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 105 with Matthew Hunter (33 not out) before the hosts closed on 244-4 from the allotted 40 overs.

In reply, Becca Emery (4-19 off 6.2 overs) and Joah Bennett (3-31 off 7 overs) ensured an early finish as Stocksfield were dismissed for 87 in the 24th over.
