STAMFORDHAM won the Plate Final for the second year in a row after beating Hexham Leazes by two runs in a nail-biting finish on O'Neill Richmonds West Tyne League Finals Day at Tynedale CC last Sunday.
Batting first after winning the toss, the Stamfordham innings was held together by opener James Carr (61 not out from 55 balls) who shared a crucial sixth-wicket stand of 67 with Sudharshan Thotalu after they had slipped to 83-5.
They closed on 151-7 from the allotted 20 overs, with L. Donnison and Ben Teasdale both picking up two wickets.
In reply, Hexham Leazes were well placed for victory on 144-4 before collapsing to 149 all out.
Their main contributors were opener Lucas Penny (25), Jonny King-Lewis (33) and No.4 Lucas Holmes (59) who was the ninth wicket to fall with three runs still needed.
Stamfordham then clinched a thrilling win when Ben Teasdale was run out off the penultimate ball of the 20th over.
The pick of the bowlers were Craig Johnston (3-20 off 4 overs) and Ciaran Murphy (3-28 off 3.5 overs).
The Knockout Cup Final proved to be a one-sided affair as Haltwhistle won by nine wickets against Newbrough with more than seven overs to spare.
After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Newbrough opener Bertie Spence (42 from 41 balls) top-scored before being run out by Archie Richardson.
None of Spence's teammates reached double figures and they were eventually all out for a modest total of 91 in the 19th over.
All five bowlers were among the wickets with most success enjoyed by Ollie Birkett (3-11 of 3 overs).
In reply, an unbroken second-wicket stand of 81 between Dale Leadbitter (48 not out from 41 balls including five boundaries and two sixes) and Michael Cunningham (27 not out from 27 balls) saw Haltwhistle reach their target in only 12.2 overs.
