CUMBRIAN trainers George Bewley and Tristan Davidson were both among the winners at Cartmel on Saturday.
Winds Of Winter (Thomasina Eyston) provided Bewley, who is based at Colby near Appleby), with one of the biggest successes of his career in the valuable 2m1f Burlington Female Jockeys Handicap Hurdle Race.
Bought for £12,200 after landing a Cartmel Selling Handicap Hurdle on May 28, this was the mare's second win from just three starts for her new yard and took her prize money for new connections to £20,000.
Always going well in the leading quintet, the seven-year-old made smooth headway from three out to hit the front after the last and kept on strongly in the closing stages to beat favourite Saligo Bay (Heidi Palin) by two-and-a-half lengths.
Her next target is the 2m1f Cartmel Cup Handicap Hurdle on Saturday, August 23.
Devon-based amateur rider Eyston, 25, said: "All the girls want to win this race because of the necklace you get for it. I've not had a huge amount of luck here in the past, but it's probably the biggest race I've won and feels like a prestigious win.
"I've been doing a masters degree in neuroscience at Exeter University this year, and I want to go into research for psychiatric disorders. I finish at the end of August and it's pretty intense, so it's a lovely break to go away racing. Hopefully I can find a job where I can keep going racing, as it'd be a shame to waste what I've built up."
This was Eyston's 20th career winner, comprising 14 under Rules and 6 between the flags, while it was also Bewley's 100th jumps winner since the start of the 2012-13 season.
Following recent wins on the Flat at Catterick and Pontefract respectively by Coconut Bay and Paper Doll, Rory's Story (Harry Reed) landed the concluding 2m1f Shorefields Handicap Chase to make it three winners from nine runners in the last fortnight for Irthington near Brampton trainer Tristan Davidson.
Reed's mount travelled strongly and recovered well from a mistake three out to lead off the home turn and score by six lengths from Pittsburg (Richie McLernon).
This was Davidson's 45th jumps winner since the start of the 2012-13 season, and he has also sent out 74 Flat winners since January 2018.
