Sunderland picked up where they left off before the international break as they earned an impressive comeback win against QPR on Saturday afternoon.

Tony Mowbray's side recovered from going a goal down in the capital thanks to secure a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Jack Clarke, Dan Ballard and Abdoullah Ba.

The former Blackburn boss made two changes from the side that thrashed Southampton 5-0 last time out, with Niall Huggins and Mason Burstow replacing the absent Dennis Cirkin and Bradley Dack.

The hosts took an early lead in the capital thanks to Kenneth Paal's low strike, which beat Anthony Patterson after flying through a defender's legs.

But the Black Cats were handed a golden opportunity to get back into the game when Gareth Ainsworth's side were reduced to 10 men, with Jack Colback shown a straight red card for his studs-up challenge on Jobe Bellingham.

Bellingham picked himself up and thought he had equalised when he headed in Alex Pritchard's cross, but he was ruled offside.

Sunderland would find an equaliser through Clarke in first-half injury time, with the winger cutting in from the left and seeing his deflected shot fly past the helpless Asmir Begovic.

Mowbray's men were well on top in the second 45 and found the breakthrough after good work from Pritchard, as he was denied from close range following a quick one-two, but Ballard was on hand to tap in the rebound.

The points were made safe with around 10 minutes of normal time remaining, as substitute Adil Aouchiche crossed for Ba to smash home a wonderful finish.

After a difficult start to the season, Sunderland have 10 points from their last four and are closing in on the playoffs, with a trip to Blackburn Rovers up next for the Black Cats on Wednesday.
