Sunderland are set to complete the deadline-day signing of a Premier League striker on loan.

According to The Athletic, Mason Burstow will join on a season-long loan from Chelsea, bolstering Tony Mowbray's side ahead of this weekend's fixture against Southampton.

The former Charlton Athletic man joined the Blues in January 2022 after hitting six goals in 23 appearances for the League One outfit.

He has made three senior appearances for Chelsea, all of which have come this season under Mauricio Pochettino, with the 20-year-old earning his first start for the club in this week's 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon.

Burstow will join an ailing Sunderland attack which has managed just four goals in the Championship this season, as the Black Cats continue to struggle in the absence of Ross Stewart.

Following the success of loanees such as Amad Diallo and Ellis Simms last season, Sunderland fans will be hoping to see Burstow have a similar impact after their side's underwhelming start to the Championship campaign.
