Newcastle United will have to find a way past treble winners Manchester City if they are to secure another trip to Wembley in this season's Carabao Cup.
The Toon's upcoming European fixtures meant that they entered this season's competition at the third round stage, and the draw was completed on Wednesday evening following the culmination of the second round fixtures.
Eddie Howe would perhaps have been hoping for a game against lower-league opposition but instead saw his side drawn at home against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.
Newcastle have already faced the Champions League holders this season, falling to a 1-0 defeat at the Etihad in the second game of the Premier League campaign.
The Citizens won the trophy four times in a row between 2018 and 2021 before Liverpool claimed it on penalties in 2022.
Last season saw Newcastle United reach the final at Wembley but their hopes of ending their trophy drought were short-lived, as Manchester United secured a 2-0 win.
The game against City is set to take place in the week of September 25, although as a likely candidate for a TV game, the date and time are yet to be confirmed.
