Newcastle United are set to complete the signing of Lewis Hall from Chelsea, in what could be the last piece of summer business from Eddie Howe's side.

Reports suggest that the 18-year-old, who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Stamford Bridge last season, will make the move to St James' Park on an initial loan deal, with a mandatory buy clause of £35m.

The left-back, who can also play as a box-to-box midfielder or winger, has made just 12 senior appearances for the Blues having progressed through their academy.

But he has clearly caught the eye of Howe and will provide an alternative option to Dan Burn and Matthew Targett on the left side of Newcastle's defence.

Howe said: "He’s a player I like — very versatile with really good potential.

"Let’s see what happens today. If we do bring a player in (Hall), that will be our transfer business concluded, unless injuries."

The Toon have already spent big this summer on the likes of Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, and Tino Livramento.

With Champions League football on the horizon at St James' Park, Howe was clearly keen to add quality squad depth while also building for the future, and Hall represents another superb long-term option.
