Newly promoted Prudhoe Youth Club got off to a great start as the Northern Football Alliance leagues got under way at the weekend.

Prudhoe, now in the premier division, kicked off with a 3-1 home victory over Winlaton Community to state their intent.

Kieran Russel, Arron Fletcher and David Burns all found the back of the net.

Haltwhistle Jubilee also joined Prudhoe in the top flight for this season but they could not claim the victory despite an action-packed game against visiting Burradon and New Fordley that produced no less than eight goals.

But in the end it was the way side who clinched the game 5-3.

Ponteland were also in action but it was a lone goal from opponents Percy Main Amateurs that sealed the points on offer. And Wallington went down 3-0 at the hands of Killingworth.

The seven games in the premier division saw a total of 30 goals between them.

Hexham got their season under way in division one and they travelled to Wallsend Boys Club and came away with the win.

The visiting Hexham outfit put three into the back of the net, only conceding one.

Ponteland United Reserves faced an opening day trip to play Wideopen in the second division.

At the end of 90 minutes there was nothing to choose between the two sides, the game ending in a 2-2 draw.
