A football team in the region completed a stunning treble winning season as junior players with a convincing performance on Wednesday evening.

Hexham Green U17's, who had already claimed both the Pin Point Saturday Premier League and the U17’s West Division Cup in recent weeks, ended their season as treble winners after a dominant win over Ashington AFC in the League Cup final.

The Greens found themselves 1-0 up after just three minutes after Dan Turner combined with Ollie Scott and Matthew Kilby, with their lead quickly doubling after Will Burns headed in from a corner.

Their opponents fought back quickly however and managed to pull themselves level midway through the first half, although Hexham responded in dominant fashion.

Goals from a number of players including Adam Newton, Dan Simpson and the afore mentioned Turner and Kilby incredibly saw the team go into half time 7-2 up and they didn’t look back on their way to the win.

Both Turner and Kilby would go on to complete their hat tricks in the second half and the side could have scored even after a number of goals had been ruled out for offside.

As well as the performance and the season overall being an extremely dominant display, another factor of the team’s success is down to the fact that many of the side have grown up playing together over the course of the last 10 years.

In fact, seven of the squad of 13 involved in the cup final on Wednesday have played for Hexham together since U8 level and their coach Joe Speed paid tribute to his team following their final game as junior players.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed coaching this set of lads and I wish them well on their future in football, with or away from Hexham FC,” said Joe after the end of the final whistle.
