A JUNIOR football team from the region tasted success after a penalty shoot-out win in their League Cup final.

Hexham Celtic U12’s claimed the Pin Point Saturday League Cup after a dramatic 7-6 penalty shoot-out win against Newcastle Blue Star Rangers on Friday night.

The match, which had ended in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, saw Hexham take the lead mid-way through the first half and the side could have increased their lead with a number of further chances leading up to half time.

However Blue Star fought back in the second half and on the break scored a fine equaliser to take the match into extra time, with both goalkeepers performing well to keep the game level throughout the remainder of the game.

The result means Celtic have completed a fine league and cup double this season.
