Hexham were knocked out of the Minor Cup after losing out to Blyth Rangers last Wednesday evening.

The game, which was a semi-final in the tournament, saw Hexham defeated by a scoreline of 4-1.

Despite dominating for large parts of the first half, Hexham had found themselves 2-0 down at half time after Blyth twice played long balls over the top of the travelling side’s defence and they went on to score each time as a result.

With Hexham coming out in the second half trying to make up the deficit and get back into the game, Blyth again took advantage of Hexham pushing further up the pitch as they searched for a route back into the match.

Despite the away side’s best efforts, they couldn’t regularly test the Blyth goalkeeper and as a result struggled in front of goal.

The travelling side’s fate was confirmed in the second half however, with Blyth again scoring two goals including a penalty.

Hexham did score a late consolation goal that saw Alex Hannand get on the scoresheet, but it was Blyth who have made it through to the final of the tournament.

Will Forsyth was named the away side’s Man of the Match.

The quarter final saw Hexham win in a penalty shootout against Newcastle East End after a 1-1 draw at the end of extra time.

Blyth Rangers will face Newcastle Independent in the Minor Cup final.
