With nearly all of the games in last weekend’s West Tyne Cricket League falling victim to the wet weather conditions the region faced, one match was however able to take place.

Division One frontrunners Humshaugh travelled to Benwell Hill 3rds on Sunday having previously arranged to play the game a day later than the rest of the league, and ended up walking away with the win.

After at one point being 68-5, the away side recovered after choosing to bat first to set a competitive score of 157-8.

Humshaugh’s score was helped by a fine knock of 63 from Matt Williamson and also a 30 not out from George Ridley.

In response and despite their best efforts, Benwell Hill’s could only manage a response of 136-6 from their 40 overs, with Zain Ahmad top scoring with 31.

On top of his batting performance, Williamson also helped his side claim the win after taking one of the team’s wickets.

The result means Humshaugh claimed 17 points from the fixture, while Benwell Hill 3rds took home seven.
